The 3550 is either a Layer 2 (L2) or Layer 3 (L3) switch, which depends on the software version and feature set that you install.

The naming conventions for 3550 images begin with either of these:

show version command in order to verify these items:

The version of software that you run
The location of the image installation
The feature set that you run
The 3550 model that you have

Here is a sample command output:

What is the differences between Cisco Enhanced Multi-layer Image & Standard Multilayer Image?

Standard multilayer image (SMI), which provides Layer 2+ features
(enterprise-class intelligent services). These features include access
control lists (ACLs), quality of service (QoS), static routing, and the
Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP) and the Routing Information Protocol
(RIP). Switches with the SMI installed can be upgraded to the EMI.

Enhanced multilayer image (EMI), which provides a richer set of
enterprise-class intelligent services. It includes all SMI features
plus full Layer 3 routing (IP unicast routing, IP multicast routing,
and fallback bridging). To distinguish it from the Layer 2+ static
routing and RIP, the EMI includes protocols such as the Enhanced
Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) and the Open Shortest Path
First (OSPF) Protocol.

What does the EIGRP stuck in active message mean?

When EIGRP returns a stuck in active (SIA) message, it means that it has not received a reply to a query. EIGRP sends a query when a route is lost and another feasible route does not exist in the topology table. The SIA is caused by two sequential events:

1.The route reported by the SIA has gone away.

2.An EIGRP neighbor (or neighbors) have not replied to the query for that route.

When the SIA occurs, the router clears the neighbor that did not reply to the query. When this happens, determine which neighbor has been cleared. Keep in mind that this router can be many hops away.

Q - Describe the difference between static and dynamic routing.

A - Static routing is configured by the network administrator and is not capable of adjusting to changes in the network without network administrator intervention. Dynamic routing adjusts to changing network circumstances by analyzing incoming routing update messages without administrator intervention.

Q - What are some of the metrics used by routing protocols?

A - Path length, reliability, delay, bandwidth, load, and communication cost.
